For almost 300 years, the silk industry dominated economic life in Krefeld. It was an inspiring source of impetus for art, design, fashion and architecture, but also for the industry and engineering. It connected the city internationally and opened it up to the ideas of tomorrow. At the same time, this one-sided focus was a danger that the city was already aware of around 1900 and tried to counteract, for example by incorporating Linn and expanding its port for new industrial settlements.
