Neil Holt studied design at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and Typography/Book Art (Prof. Walter Nikkels) at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. After completing his studies, Neil Holt founded a studio in Cologne specializing in graphic design for the cultural sector. Since then, he has designed numerous exhibition catalogues, art and text volumes as well as websites and communication for renowned institutions, publishers and artists in Germany and abroad.
For as long as he has been working in the field, Neil Holt has taken a keen interest in the theory and development of typography and book design. He teaches, researches and writes – always at the interface with other artistic disciplines, especially the fine arts, architecture and photography, and in correlation with design practice. As an editor and author, he has contributed to a comprehensive specialist book, among others: Papier. Material, Medium and Magic (Prestel)

Making Books is about:
telling stories
interpreting and translating contents
adding a new layer of meaning
making (complex) things (clearly) comprehensible
fixing and preserving ideas and thoughts (for the future)
creating the appropriate voice and tone
attention to detail and thoroughness
and at the end of the process:
holding a product in your hands which fascinates, surprises, stimulates and appeals to all your senses
