Aufbruch in die Moderne
Sammler, Mäzene und Kunsthändler in Berlin
1880–1933
The volume introduces the often forgotten pioneers of modernism and recalls the lost era of Berlin’s art world. Thanks to the commitment of private art collectors, patrons and art dealers, the young capital city of Berlin developed into an artistic centre of modernism from 1871 onwards. Numerous private and public collections emerged here, promoting avant-garde artists until its destruction in 1933.
